Our four-year part-time programme offers a professional training and qualification in counselling and psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy is understood, within this training, as a journey in relationship through any relevant aspects of personal, social and spiritual life – a journey which accommodates and encourages a growing awareness of the ‘whole’ self. The person’s own inner wisdom, personal freedom, and ‘responsibility for self’ are respected as central elements in this process.

Attendance Requirements
- One tuition/workshop day per week from October to the end of May
- One weekend residential workshop per year
- Weekly individual psychotherapy
- Group psychotherapy (fortnightly in term)
- ‘Reciprocal Trainee Therapy’ (1 hour per week – years 1 & 2)
- Group supervision (fortnightly in year 2; weekly in years 3 & 4)
- Clinical practice placement (years 3 & 4 for total of 200 hours of work)
- Assessment
- Monthly self-evaluation
- Mid-year review meetings
- Written assignments (term papers)
- Case studies (years 3 & 4)
- Dissertation (year 4)
- Written examinations (end of years 1, 2 & 3)

As this training is offered at post-graduate level, applicants shall normally possess either
- a relevant primary degree
or - equivalent training/experience in a field relevant to counselling and psychotherapy
In addition to this entry requirement candidates will also be expected to have an appropriate level of maturity and life experience, normally indicated by being aged at least in their mid-twenties.
The annual fee includes all costs (tuition, supervision, examinations, residential weekends, assessments) with the exception of individual and group psychotherapy fees, which will be negotiated by the student on a private basis.
Course fees are reviewed annually.

Our training staff are highly qualified professionals in the field of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
In addition to the Centre’s training team, tutors from both Ireland and the UK who have specialist training and experience are invited to contribute to the centre's training programmes in their areas of expertise.
Training seminars/workshops (with the exception of residential weekends) will take place at the Centre’s premises on Upper Gardiner Street.
The Centre maintains an extensive and up-to-date counselling & psychotherapy library for student use.
This training programme is also offered at the Castlebar Counselling & Therapy Centre.
Qualification and Professional Accreditation
On successful completion of the course students are awarded the Centre’s Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy. Following completion of an appropriate post-training period of supervised practice in line with prevailing standards, graduates may apply for accredited membership of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) through its constituent body, the Irish Association of Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP). They may also apply for accredited membership of the Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (IACP).
