Entry Requirements
This Diploma Course is open to fully accredited psychotherapists/counsellors who have a minimum of five years clinical experience and who are working, or beginning to work, as supervisors of psychotherapists/counsellors. Participants are required to have at least one supervisee (not a course member) by the start of the course and to have completed 10 hours of supervision with their supervisee(s) before successful completion of the course.
Course Content
The contents of the course will be drawn principally from the work of Val Wosket and Steve Page, whose book “Supervising the Counsellor: A Cyclical Model”, is the core study text for the course. This model provides participants with a comprehensive and systematic approach to the theory and practice of supervision, while accommodating within it other approaches to supervision.
Course Structure
The course is run over 7 weekends, usually starting in February and ending in November.
Each weekend, comprising the Friday evening and all-day Saturday and Sunday, includes:
- Theory input/workshop presentation
- Supervised skills practice
- Group supervision (by tutors) of supervision practice undertaken outside of course
Assessment
Assessment is ongoing during the course and includes both theoretical and practical elements, as follows:- Live practical assessment of supervision competence
- Essay on the theory and practice of supervision
- Presentation of an audio tape (or video) of a live supervisory session with a supervisee
